For casuals and part-timers in hospo and retail

Nobody reads the award on their break.

So you trust the payslip, or you don’t and can’t prove it. Here’s the bit PayJar handles.

  • Sunday, public holiday, after 7 pm: what’s the rate again?

Your award’s rates are built in. Each hour gets the highest rate that applies, never two stacked together, and late shifts are split at midnight.

  • “Casual loading is included.” Is it?

The 25% is part of every casual rate, and PayJar shows it line by line so you can see where it went.

  • The payslip looks light after a big weekend.

Enter the gross from your payslip. PayJar compares it with the shifts you logged and tells you the difference.

  • Is my super actually going in?

PayJar shows the 12% super on your ordinary hours, so you know what should land in your fund.

One Sunday brunch shift, start to finish

Two taps and nothing to look up. The numbers below are an example; yours come from your own shifts and your own rate.

  1. Tap when you clock on

Forgot? Pick the time you actually started.

  2. Tap when you clock off

Breaks can come off on their own, once you set them up.

  3. Check the day’s pay

Sunday rate, loading and super, already worked out.

Built for Australian awards

Rates from the Hospitality and General Retail awards, updated for 1 July 2026: level 1 adult rates start at $26.44 (hospitality) and $27.81 (retail).

  • Penalty rates that don’t stack

Saturday, Sunday, public holiday and evening rates, with only the highest one paid for each hour, as the awards say. Public holidays for your state or territory are built in.

  • Casual or permanent

The 25% casual loading is built into casual rates, never added on top of a penalty.

  • Overtime and junior rates

Past 38 hours a week or the award’s daily limit, overtime rates take over. Under 21? Your rate is checked against the junior minimum.

  • Super, shown

12% on your ordinary time earnings, so you can check what goes into your fund.

Questions

Is PayJar free?
Yes. Clocking on and off, penalty rates, overtime, checking your payslip, your full history and Excel or CSV exports are free. Pro is a one-off purchase for unlimited jobs, PDF timesheets and bonuses or deductions.
Which awards does it cover?
The Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2020 and the General Retail Industry Award 2020: penalty rates, casual loading, overtime and junior rates.
Is the casual loading included?
Yes. Casual rates include the 25% loading, and it isn’t stacked on top of weekend or public holiday rates.
Does it work out super?
It shows 12% super on your ordinary time earnings, which your employer has to pay into your fund (if you’re under 18, only in weeks you work more than 30 hours). Overtime doesn’t count towards it.
Does it work out tax?
No. PayJar estimates your gross pay, before tax, so you can compare it with your payslip.
What data does the app send?
Only anonymous usage statistics (for example, “exported a PDF”) and crash reports, without amounts, job names or notes. You can turn them off in Settings. The details are in the privacy policy.
Is this legal advice?
No. PayJar gives estimates for your own records. Your award and the Fair Work Ombudsman have the final word.
