Privacy policy

What stays on your phone

Everything you enter in PayJar: jobs, hourly rates, shifts, breaks, tips, sales, notes, pay periods, the amounts on your paychecks and your settings. It’s saved in the app’s storage on your device. It isn’t sent to us, and none of it is part of the statistics below.

What the app sends, and why

To find bugs and learn which features people use, PayJar uses two Google Firebase services:

• Firebase Analytics: anonymous usage events, meaning the screens you open and the actions you take, such as “exported a PDF” or “logged a tip”. Events never include amounts, job names or notes.
• Firebase Crashlytics: crash reports, with the technical trace of what the app was doing when it failed.

Both include the country and language you chose in PayJar, your device model, and the versions of your operating system and of PayJar. To tell installations apart, Firebase creates a random identifier for each installation of the app; it isn’t linked to your name, phone number or advertising ID. As with any internet connection, Google also receives your device’s IP address when data is sent.

What the app doesn’t send or do

• It doesn’t collect your advertising identifier (IDFA on iPhone) or Android’s device ID (SSAID).
• The data isn’t used for advertising or to track you across other apps and websites, and we don’t sell it.
• PayJar has no ads.

Who processes it

Google processes this data for us as a data processor, under the Firebase terms, and may do so on servers outside your country, including in the United States. See Privacy and security in Firebase and the Google Privacy Policy.

How long it’s kept

• Usage statistics (Analytics): individual events are kept for 14 months and then deleted. After that, only anonymous totals remain, such as how many times a PDF was exported.
• Crash reports (Crashlytics): 90 days, then deleted.

Turning statistics off

In PayJar, go to Settings › Privacy and turn off “Anonymous stats” at any time: the app stops sending usage statistics and crash reports from then on. If you choose the United Kingdom as your country in PayJar, they’re off until you turn them on. What was already sent is deleted at the end of the periods above.

You can ask us to access or delete data about you. Because the statistics aren’t linked to your name, we may not be able to tell which ones are yours, but write to us at support@payjar.app and we’ll do what we can.

Backups

• iPhone: if you back up to iCloud in PayJar, the backups are saved in PayJar’s folder in your own iCloud Drive. Your iPhone’s iCloud Backup may also include the app’s data.
• Android: if your phone’s backup is on, Android includes PayJar’s data in the backup in your Google account.

Apple or Google keep these backups under their own privacy policies. We can’t access them.

Exports and sharing

When you export (CSV, Excel, PDF or a backup file) or share, the file goes wherever you choose: email, messages, Files, Drive or another app. What happens next is up to you and that service.

Purchases

PayJar Pro is bought through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google process the payment; we don’t receive your name, card or billing details. The app only asks the store whether Pro was bought on your account.

Deleting your data

• A shift or a job: delete it in the app.
• Everything on your phone: uninstall PayJar.
• iCloud backups: in the Files app, open iCloud Drive and delete the PayJar folder, or go to Settings, tap your name, then iCloud and manage storage, and delete PayJar’s data.
• Android backups: manage or delete them in your Google account’s storage (Backups in Google One or Google Drive).
• Exported files: delete them wherever you saved or sent them.
• Statistics and crash reports: turn them off in Settings. Individual events already sent are deleted after 14 months, and crash reports after 90 days.

Children

PayJar is made for working people and isn’t directed at children under 13.

This website

payjar.app doesn’t use cookies, analytics or ads. Pages in English and Spanish load the Manrope font from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when you open them. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs to run the site.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If the app starts sending anything new, we’ll update this policy and the store privacy labels first.
